Demi Moore, star of “Substance,” revealed in an interview with People magazine that she used to push her body to the limit in her early years in Hollywood, including extreme diets and an intense exercise routine.
Demi Moore, 62, told People that she did “crazy things” to transform her body for the roles she played in the 1990s, such as in the film “G.I. Jane.”
“[I was] very harsh and had a much more antagonistic relationship with my body,” she explained.
The “Ghost” actress shared her experience with “G.I. Jane,” which tells the story of Lieutenant Jordan O’Neil, who joins the U.S. Navy’s women’s training program.
Jordan, played by Demi Moore, undergoes a rigorous training routine.
“I transformed my body several times, and of course, it was a much stronger and more muscular body. […] But I realized that I didn’t want to carry that externally. […] And I think I was exhausted from subjecting my body to so much for so long.”
The actress shared that she once cycled 42 kilometers from her home in Malibu to the Paramount studios. “It was like I wanted to dominate my body, unlike now, where I have a much more intuitive and relaxed relationship with it,” she commented.
Demi Moore spoke openly about her process of accepting that her body is no longer the same as it was in her twenties.
“[There was] liberation in accepting my body as it is in my early sixties. And that’s it. It’s no longer the body I had at twenty, even when I used to complain about it back then,” she said.
Nowadays, she pays more attention to what her body needs and feels much less insecure.
“I listen to my body and have much less fear. When I was younger, I felt like my body was betraying me. So I tried to control it,” she reflected.
